The never-ending Classic series has always been close to the heart of Royal Enfield, and with the upcoming Classic 650, the brand is all set to take it to towering heights, bringing pleasing old-world charm with a class-competitive modern performance. This truly heavy and powerful edition offers the original thump that enthusiasts have craved, and that too with muscle from both ends.
Design
The Classic 650 carries the legacy silhouette of its sibling-the 350cc man leg Egyptian-becoming proportionately scaled to its larger frame. The signature teardrop fuel tank, round headlamp, and sprung solo seat create connectivity to the traditional past while housing the powerplant 650 cc. The new premium touches include LED lighting, coupled with dual channel anti-lock braking system, and some finely detailed chrome touches.
Engine And Performance
It is home to Royal Enfield’s tried and tested 648 cc air-oil cooled parallel-twin engine which discharges 47 bhp along with 52 Nm torque. This smooth powerplant, borrowed from the Interceptor 650, has been retuned for stronger low-end grunt befitting the Classic character. The 6-speed gearbox features revised ratios for relaxed highway cruising, while the signature exhaust note has been deepened for that quintessential Royal Enfield thump. The 0-60 mph run is expected to occur within just under 6 seconds with a top from around 110 mph.
Improved Ride And Handling
The Classic 650 is built on a revised double-cradle frame along with front 41 mm fork and twin gas-charged shock absorbers in the rear. More wheelbase (50mm additional than the 350) offers stability at high speeds while retaining agility, a trademark of the Classic. Braking comes with 320mm Front and 240mm Rear discs with dual-channel ABS, standard. Newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels with purpose-designed tires offer confident cornering and straight-line stability.
Modern Features With Vintage Soul
The Classic 650 has been open for contemporary comforts, but remains the same retro character at the heart. The motorcycle has an analog-digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity to Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation system. Modern touring amenities have yet to be built into standard fare hardware such as USB charging and dual-purpose switchgear. To ensure it is sustainable, the complete wiring harness has been redone with extreme care so as not to disturb the clean classic aesthetic.
Competitively Priced And Positioned
It is expected to be launched at the ex-showroom price of around ₹3.5-3.8 lakh which fits perfectly between the 350 cc models and the premium offerings like Super Meteor 650, thus providing an easy bridge for existing Royal Enfield owners and newcomers alike. Key advantages will remain the extensive service network and low cost of maintenance.
